DCU ladies clean up in the basketball

DCU ladies basketball team capped off an amazing two year unbeaten record by winning the 56th Annual Intervarsity Championships, with the men also securing honours.

Home advantage was crucial as DCU triumphed for the second year in a row at the fi ve-day tournament. The girls won four games on route to the A fi nal, where they comfortably defeated close rivals UCC 75 – 53.

At one stage, the hosts were up by 25 points in the second half as UCC struggled to cope with the power and skill of Mark Ingle’s team. Five DCU players were presented with All Star awards including Ann Marie Healy, who also received MVP of the tournament. DCU men’s B team tasted success in the B final, beating Waterford IT 58 – 55.
