Talking Taboos: erectile dysfunction

We have all either experienced first hand or heard tell of the horror stories.

The one night stand that didn’t quite stand up, the romantic evening that collapsed under the duvet and led to both people feeling completely insecure about their sexuality and wondering what went wrong.

Am I not sexy enough for him? Am I not attracted to girls anymore? Why would little Paddy let me down when I have not had sex in three months?

It is incredibly awkward whether you are male or female and neither sex is likely to regale the story to their friends the next day to gain insight. However calm down, erectile dysfunction is a condition with lots solutions. Usually over reacting to the problem can only prolong it.

Symptoms:

Erectile dysfunction really only has two symptoms. It is the inability of a man to either achieve erection before intercourse or when erection is achieved, for it not to be sustained until ejaculation.
When a man has erectile dysfunction it is a struggle for him to keep the penis erect during intercourse. Occasional failure to achieve erection is an extremely common problem.

When girls say it happens to everyone we are not just lying to save your pride. It is the truth. Most men whether they admit it or not will have the odd night when the rocket fails to launch. This certainly does not constitute as impotence. One floppy does not a medical problem make!

Causes:

If the situation is constantly interfering with your sex life then you should seek medical help.

Psychological reasons often cause the problem. Depression and anxiety are the most typical reasons why this would happen. If the man cannot turn down or deal with his worries then the performance is going to suffer.

Physical reasons for impotence can be connected to drugs in your bloodstream, heavy drinking and excessive smoking. Also heart problems, diabetes, liver or kidney disease can all affect the workings of the penis.

Solutions:

The best advice I can give to stop erectile dysfunction is to locate the problem. Are you having relationship problems? Are you particularly stressed over a work matter? Are you on a new medication which might be causing a side effect?

Men are proud creatures and sometimes the reason for their manhood faultering is that they are so worried it will happen again. This means that one drunken night when the sex didn’t go to plan turns into months of stress and inability to achieve erection.

If you have tried everything and the problem still occurs then there is always medical help available. Viagra is frequently used to coax even the sleepiest penis out of hibernation and other options are injections to the penis or penis implants which pump blood into the penis. These are all last resort solutions and are rarely needed with men under fifty.

Top Tips:

Girls, try and be supportive. If this situation occurs in a relationship don’t be selfish. It is not all about you. Try and get your man to discuss the problem and find the root cause. Do not get frustrated as this will only create bigger worries. Remember, a penis has never been scared into erection.

Boys, do not stress yourself, you are young and raring to plant your seed. Nine times out of ten it will be something easily solved so don’t make it an ongoing dilemma. Sex is meant to be enjoyable so turn off your brain and he will rise again.
