DCU battle to the end

Maynooth 30
DCU 27

DCU Rugby Fresher’s team lost a hard fought game against a resolute Maynooth side whose points tally in the first half drove them on to victory.

The final score of 30-27 shows that the game could have gone either way with both sides battling well throughout the match.

DCU dominated the set pieces but their poor defensive play let them down in the end. Indeed they were quick out of the blocks at the start of the match with Dan Moore kicking a quick penalty however it did not take Maynooth long to reply with their own try.

This was soon followed by a drop goal from the home side right in front of the posts that increased their lead to 10-3.

However DCU did not let their heads drop and quickly kicked 3 points to bring them back into the game.

In the second half, a Maynooth turn over won them a penalty from which they scored but DCU would not go down without a fight and got the ball straight down to the Maynooth 5 metre line applying a considerable amount of pressure on the Maynooth defence, resulting in a try and a conversion.

A great individual try a few minutes later from Dan Moore who had picked up the ball on the half way line and blitzed past the Maynooth defence to touch the ball down.

While Maynooth had some anxious moments in their last remaining moments of the second half they held on to claim victory on their home ground.
