A Load of Balls

So it’s the dawn of a new season and everyone is experiencing the perils of the credit crunch. Wait a second, what’s that smell coming from Morton Stadium?

It’s First Division franchise Sporting Fingal who seemingly are invincible to the global economic crisis. They’ve brought in Premier Division superstars [sic] Eamon Zayed and Gary O’Neill to fire them to promotion.

At the time of going to press it’s unclear whether or not O’Neill and Zayed were required to sell their souls to play for Fingal but we’ll keep an eye on it as the season progresses.

Not even the “Big Club” Bohemians can avoid the crunch. Though they’ve still retained some of the ex-Shels players who won them the double in 2008. Not to mention the addition of Joey “I’m great for three months but the rest of the time you’ll forget I play for you” N’Do.

It might be harsh to have a go at N’Do considering he is one of the greatest players to have ever graced the League of Ireland. Still though it’s impossible to argue his case when he is so partial to long spells on the sidelines.

Bohs’ habit of shedding money is bound to continue well into 2009 when a certain Mr Liam Carroll comes knocking on the door of Dalymount Park looking for his money.

David Attenborough should log on to TheBohs.com forum for some prime examples of a group of ostriches with their heads in the sand. Bohs’ dodgy dealings in 2008 would be enough to make the chiefs at Anglo Irish stand up in awe.

It might seem that I’m being a bit harsh Bohaz but I’ve never forgiven them for bringing Gareth Farrelly into the League.

Pete Mahon and Stephen Kenny are two examples of good managers who are great football men and were forced out of Bohs by the small mindedness and pettiness of the gypsies supporters.

Meanwhile TV3 plunged to new depths of idiocy with their “Lawless Ireland” series, the March 9th edition detailed the perils of Ireland’s hooligan problem.

Fully equip with extensive research (viewing a few Bebo sites), a bearded sociologist who told fans they were being bold and a member of the FAI who assured us things were okay, they took to the airwaves. On the same week the season starts?

Come on, they should just have Alan Cantwell read out that “Going to League of Ireland games causes cancer” on the 5:30 news. On the same night I watched Monday Night Soccer on RTE 2 and was left in awe of the skills of Galway United’s Jay O’Shea.

Monday Night Soccer might not be perfect but its got the right idea, it focuses on the football. The sensationalist hacks and fools of the rest of the media seem to want to focus on the negative aspects of the game.

Did Sky mention at all that Manchester United had the most hooligan related arrests last season of any other club? No, because it has nothing to do with football.
