GAA ‘09/’10 Preview
This year promises to be a big year for DCU GAA. Never before has the Hurling team been in the top tier of intervarsity competition and this year sees the formation of the first Freshers’ Camogie team in DCU. Also this year there are seven Men’s football teams, the largest number ever.
In February, DCU will host the O’Connor Cup, the Ladies Football tournament which DCU won for the first time last year. Preparations have already begun for the event and anyone interested in helping in organising the O’Connor Cup can email admin.dcu@gaa.ie.
Freshers’ Football trials take place in the DCU Sports Grounds at St. Clare’s (across the road from Albert College Park) this Wednesday at 5.30 pm, and all skill levels are welcome. Given the presence of more teams than ever in DCU, there is likely to be a level for everyone- from intercounty to recreational.
A new ladies recreational football initiative, “Ladies GaGa” has been launched by DCU Sport. The initiative hopes to bring Ladies GAA to a new audience in the university, and offers the unique chance to learn the sport in a relaxed atmosphere while making new friends.
Preparations for this season’s Sigerson Cup have also begun. DCU GAA hopes to confirm the management teams for the Sigerson Cup at a meeting this week.
Any general queries regarding DCU GAA can be sent to the aforementioned email address, admin.dcu@gaa.ie.
