How cheap is too cheap? Tesco Value Chocolate Chip Cookies

49c, 250g

Tesco Value cookies? Not exactly the most enticing packaging is it?

No, you wouldn’t be serving them up to your posh cousins at Christmas. When you take them out of the packaging though, they look like fairly normal cookies, so might I suggest a china plate and doily? Anyway you get loads of cookies for your 49cent, with feck all excess packaging, which is always a good thing.

Never mind the appearance, how’s the taste?

Well, the first one I ate tasted like a tablespoon of sugar. But for some reason I kept eating. This might have something to do with the Partially Inverted Sugar Syrup I saw in the ingredients panel, I don’t know.

So you liked them then? How were the chips?

Unfortunately, I’ve estimated that there are only about seven chips in each cookie. I’m not basing this on scientific research or anything, you know, I just ate them. The lack of chips is made even worse by the fact that they’re fairly tasteless. I still enjoyed them though.

Now to the most important question: how did they go with your cup o’tae?

Well, I’ve never been an advocate of dipping chocolate-chip cookies into tea. That’s what chocolate digestives and toffee pops are for. The best of chocolate chip cookies don’t dip well, so there was never going to be hope for these yokes.

So will you be buying them again?

After eating half a packet of the cookies, I have developed quite the taste for them. In fact, I’m finding it difficult to stop. My head is telling me that taste-wise they’re not up to the standard of other brands like Maryland, but my heart and the chemicals in my body are telling me that there is no greater pleasure than Tesco Value Chocolate Chip Cookies. Whether or not I buy them again depends on how intense the withdrawal symptoms are. I’ll let you know.
