These boots are made for walking (in the rain)
I’m sure everyone has noted the sharp deterioration in the weather since the 1st of November. Dire, I think you’ll agree.
And this autumn-winter influx is wreaking absolute havoc with our footwear. It is a horrible situation to find oneself in when you start on you merry way to lectures, and when you reach your destination are making a very unpleasant squelching noise with every step you take.
The answer to this problem: Boots. This season, boots are the new… well, black. There is a giant selection to choose from, for every leg length and style out there.
My current favourite, and on my wish list this Christmas are thigh highs. Now, I know that connotes images of strippers and Amsterdam, but it is possible to do thigh highs without looking like a ho.
It is important, when wearing thigh highs to remember that most people remember them from the cover of Pretty Woman. But, instead of wearing them with bare legs and dresses, try them with cute woollen tunics and tights or with tucked in skinnies and a big wooly cardi. These styles eliminate the fierce, dominatrix look and make it comfy, girlie and oh-so-toasty warm.
Ankle boots are another staple this winter. Invest in a decent quality pair. I would rarely advocate against the motherland that is Penney’s but their leather shoes aren’t great. And they leak. And start to smell damp. So try New Look or Office for a great selection at a pretty ok price.
The mid length boot is a fickle friend. Looks great with jeans, great with short dresses and skirt, but looks disastrous with skirts that land below the knee. If you are working mid-length or below the knee boots, bare some leg (tighted or jeaned leg of course).
Embrace the boot and let your mammy be proud that for once, you are actually wearing sensible shoes.
