Avocados look like black pear shapes from the outside but on the inside there is a wholesome fruit that is so good for you. We most commonly know avocados because of the popular guacamole dip that we use for our taco crisps.
They can be eaten on their own with a pinch of salt added for flavour, sliced into a salad, on cracker bread with cheese, in a sandwich or blended in a smoothie maker. Avocados add a very creamy texture to smoothies.
Avocados can also be eaten as a dessert with the ever-popular avocado chocolate mousse dessert being healthy and sweet at the same time, making it guilt free. If you have dry skin avocado masks are very moisturising and beneficial.
Avocados have so much goodness in them but slimmers will always say they are full of fat. This is true – they are made up of 77% fat while there is roughly 275 calories in an avocado. This doesn’t sound too appealing but in fact the fats offer super nutritional value.
The high content of monounsaturated fats, especially oleic acid, offers protection against heart diseases, strokes and cancer.
There is a very high content of potassium in avocados, which a deficiency of can lead to fatigue, depression and muscle spasms. When you first try an avocado you may think it is very bland but when you get used to it you will enjoy it.
