DCU SU to campaign for ‘yes’ vote in Marriage Equality Referendum

The DCU Students’ Union will campaign for a ‘yes’ vote in the upcoming Marriage Equality Referendum following 2392 students voting in favour of the Union supporting the referendum.

As a result of 93 per cent of students voting yes, the SU will advocate and actively campaign for a ‘yes’ vote for marriage equality in the May 22 vote .The result was met with a thunderous applause at the announcement in the Hub at 6:30pm this evening. Some 222 voted no to the referendum.

Students also voted in favour of reforming the current Students’ Union constitution. Students were alerted about the proposed changes via email. As a result of 1231 or 86 per cent of students voting in favour of the reform, changes that will be made to the current constitution.

The constitutional changes affect: governance, election and referendum procedures; the grammar and formatting of the constitution; and the fundamental rights of Students Union membership.
