‘What’s in the Powder’ campaign launched last week by Lord Mayor of Dublin

The Lord Mayor of Dublin has offered her support to a new drugs initiative called ‘What’s in the Powder?’

What started out as a collaborative project between Irish universities UCD, TCD and DIT and The Ana Liffey Drug Project could be set for nationwide success, with resources to be distributed across college campuses, social media campaigns and the launch of the website drugs.ie.

This initiative was launched after the success ‘What’s in the Pill?’ project, launched in October 2015. The new campaign focuses primarily on the contents of powder substances, often dubbed ‘designer drugs’, which have caused great harm to people in the past six months.

Speaking about the project, the Lord Mayor, Criona Ni Dhalaigh, said, “While it’s always safest not to use illicit drugs at all, the reality is that people do use drugs. Given that this is the case, they need to be properly informed about the risks and how to reduce the potential for harm.”

The Ana Liffey Drug Project are hopeful that the project will enlighten incoming and current students to the consequences of substance abuse and allow them to make a more informed decision surrounding drugs when they enter third-level education.
