From country singer to global goddess, Taylor Swift’s style has dramatically changed, just like her music. She has come a long way since (insert ex-boyfriends name here) and throughout the years she has been pictured in princess gowns, cowboy boots and shimmery playsuits.

On Swift’s most recent album Reputation, Swift looks back at how she’s grown in life and love, which has inspired us to see how her style has evolved with her.

In a 2016 May cover story for Vogue, the fashion icon said a clothing  line could be in her future. “I would want it to be something that was relatable and accessible and everyday,” she said.

“I don’t see it being couture. I would want it to be reflective of my style. And a lot of things I wear are not highly expensive.” Since then she has paired up with Keds and Heritage66, a Nashville-based clothing manufacturer.

In 2006, Taylor Swift released her debut single, “Tim McGraw”, reaching No. 6 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. At the 41st Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, she wore an informal halter dress with sparkling copper cowboy boots to the event. She was introduced into the limelight as a country singing sweetheart.

She dressed like this until 2011, after that she began straightening her once-famous curly locks and wearing red lipstick.  She once said that, “Red lipstick gives me power.” She let go of all the glitter, frills and cowboy boots. She began to embrace her body and wore playsuits, two-pieces and a lot of red items of clothing.

Taylor Swift’s  feminine signature style was years in the making. When she moved to New York in 2014,  the paparazzi captured what the singer wore everyday. Taylor styled a basic tops, coloured jeans or high-waisted shorts regularly and since moving to New York, she became an effortless style icon.

And if she is anything like the sound on her latest album, she is leaning into darker tones but she still continues to look elegant in her signature red carpet golden goddess look that she regularly pulls off. Since her first ever awards appearance in 2008, the singer’s style has evolved every year, at every ceremony as she began to trade in her girly minis for more streamlined and sophisticated looks.

According to her stylist, Joseph Cassell, it’s Swift’s confidence that helps her pull off the riskier choices. “Taylor has such a clear vision of who she is and how to reflect that in what she wears,” Cassell told InStyle Magazine. “She isn’t afraid to try new things, like combining separates in a cool way or choosing accessories that are interesting or different.”
