Irish independent businesses to support this Christmas

Support local is a message we are being bombarded with this year more than ever. It’s so important for us to support the smaller, independent businesses this year and what better time to do that than Christmas.

Christmas is the perfect time to spoil your loved ones with a thoughtful and meaningful present and there are a myriad of incredible independent Irish businesses that are making this even easier for us.

MIMI+MARTHA, a mother-daughter duo based in Limerick, sell cute, quirky lifestyle and interior items. They launched the business in August and strive for the best in Irish designs and interiors as well as being pioneers of sustainable living.

Talented illustrator, Jason O’Gorman creates unique and quirky prints of Cork as well as depictions of characters from classic films and tv shows. You can view his prints here.

If you’re in the market for some visually spectacular scarves, Bourkily by Emily Burke is exactly what you need. Emily champions ethical and sustainable fashion. Her beautiful creations are dual purposed in that they can be worn as bandanas, neckerchiefs or crop tops.

Sustainable advocates Roz Purcell and Tara Stewart have worn some of Burke’s designs and featured them on their Instagram accounts. Bourkily is stocked in Om Diva Boutique in Dublin and Studio Minti, but you can also purchase her designs from her Depop @bourkily.

For all your artistic desires, Anna Boles is a talented self-taught artist based in Westmeath, who paints commission pieces on request.

Talented craftsman Paul Mahoney creates beautiful and intricate craft pottery and art. Mahoney has a wide range of prints on sale on his website depicting children, family and farm life in various scenes. He also has three different pottery collections: Ocean, Greystone and Teal.

If you’re looking for stunning jewellery look no further than Enibas Jewellery based in Cork. Designer Sabine Lenz creates silver and gold jewellery inspired by her love of the Irish landscape, history and style.

Artistic connoisseur Fintan Wall has made it easy for shoppers by supplying a host of cute, funny designs. Wall Hello! sells the best kitsch art prints, cards, pins, jewellery, mugs and t-shirts. You’ll find quirky designs depicting the latest in pop culture such as a mug captioned ‘It’s…Rebekah Vardy’s account.’

Rachel Kelly of Rachel’s Creations based in Westmeath creates handmade bird houses, clocks and Christmas decorations. Kelly’s products are personalised and customised for each customer. You can place an order through Kelly’s Instagram account.

All of the businesses mentioned above have an online presence and ship around Ireland so when the time comes to make your Christmas list, make sure to include some independent Irish businesses.
